Android Auto makes life just a little easier when you're busy and behind the wheel of your car. It allows you to use your phone by voice commands so you can remain alert to traffic and keep your hands on the steering wheel. Here's how it works.
Google dropped Android Auto in 2015. It's downloadable via Google Play. Smartphones with Android 10 or later already have built-in Android Auto. Android Auto pairs your smartphone and your vehicle infotainment platform, displaying a mirror of your smartphone's apps and functions on the infotainment platform's in-dash touchscreen.
How Android Auto WorksAndroid Auto comes with integrated hands-free capability. This capability makes it possible to optimize your phone's apps, features, content, and data with simple voice commands or, in some cases, the touch of a button on your car's steering wheel. Using voice commands you can:
- Make phone calls
- Send texts
- Send messages
- Host hands-free chat sessions
- Stream YouTube, Spotify, iHeartRadio, or other favorites
- Review your day's upcoming schedule
- Get news and weather
- Reserve parking
- Find fueling and EV charging
- Consult Maps or Waze
